Portfolio > Queen Anne - 2nd Story & Porch Addition

Before

After – addition and renovation in 1998

The business sides of the house shown above are actually the side and back, but being on a corner are very visible from the side street.

Before

After - Beaded ceiling and a tongue & groove wood floor on the porch match the materials used a century ago.

A more recent project involved remodeling the hall bathroom [see photos below] –

Before –

After -

City records indicate this house was built in 1904 but other old plats show the footprint dating back to the late 1800’s.  On a corner just a walk across the street from downtown Naperville, this friendly sized Queen Anne was given a new expanded porch along with a 2nd story master suite addition.

Before - The old 1st story roof was removed in its entirety.

After

A trench foundation was poured to support the new porch.  All new trim details match the old.

Interesting Find – While digging the porch foundation we found the old cistern!  It had stone walls and was partially demolished but wasn’t completely filled in, so there was a void.  We filled the void and left it for future explorers to discover.

“Many people have commented that our addition looks like it is original to the house, something that could only be accomplished through the level of dedication and skilled expertise that we associate with Acorn Custom Builders.”

Master bedroom is to the left –

“In addition to managing the job, Mr. A’Hearn is a master woodworker and crafted all of our moldings and carpentry matching the work exactly to existing 100 year old interior and exterior trim elements. This quality work takes time, and Mr. A’Hearn took the time and evidenced the expertise to construct the exterior and interior woodwork to the highest standards.”

The homeowner bought the transom at a craft fair.  The mirror frame was made to match the casing profile.

“We highly recommend Acorn Builders for your project. We would be happy to provide any additional information that you might need.”

Sincerely,
Susan and Ed Bulak
